Lesson horses are the heart of the Silver Stirrup Foundation’s programs. They provide safe, patient, and consistent partners for youth riders as they learn the fundamentals of riding, horsemanship, and responsibility. For many children, a lesson horse is their first meaningful connection with an animal—offering confidence, comfort, and trust while creating positive learning experiences in and out of the arena. These horses make it possible for riders of all levels to grow at their own pace in a supportive and encouraging environment.

Caring for lesson horses requires ongoing commitment and resources. Board, feed, farrier care, veterinary services, tack, training, and routine maintenance are essential to keeping horses healthy, sound, and happy. In addition, as programs grow, new lesson horses may be needed to ensure riders continue to have safe and appropriate mounts. Sponsorship support helps offset these costs, allowing the Silver Stirrup Foundation to maintain high standards of care while ensuring horses are well-trained, comfortable, and able to safely support the children who rely on them.
